Treasure Island Beach Drumcircle photos & directions
www.drumcircles.net
This is a pretty rockin' drum circle on the beach here in the Tampa Bay Florida area.
If you are visiting us, or live nearby be sure to check this one out. It's pretty well
known around here, and very popular now. It's probably the biggest one around Pinellas
County. There is dozens of different drummers and dancers to jam and dance with. Plus
loads of beach going onlookers, and curious tourists. Here's the directions to get there.

Bring a chair if you like, most everyone does. As far as I know, some adult beverages
are permitted at this beach. Something to keep in mind if you have children. The scene
is family friendly for the most part, and all are welcome. Here is some history on it:
I was told this 8 year old drum circle was started by Christine Jalbert, and her friend
Johanna Krynytzky a well known local belly dancer & teacher. (She once told me that it
looks like her little child has grown up! She still teaches belly dancing in St. Pete.)
They invited a few friends out that first Sunday. Then the second week, they promoted it a
little bit, spread the word around a little, hung a few fliers, it took off and grew from
there. We owe them a big thank you for getting this fine drum circle started. It has had
it's problems in the past, but somehow always worked through them. A few drummers had to
go to city counsel meetings to save it just last year. We owe them a big thank you also.
During that period of time the drum circle got some pretty bad press, and nearly got shut
down. It was like a media feeding frenzy. Everything seems to be going fine now.
It starts a couple of hours before sunset, and has to end at 10 PM. By doing this, and the
cleaning up of tourist litter, was the compromise that helped to save the drum circle from
being shut down for good. It came pretty close. Anyway, it's fun! Come on out!
Directions to get the to Treasure Island Drum Circle
From downtown St. Pete, go west on Central Ave. to the beach. (Toll bridge, bring quarters.)
At the dead end into Gulf Blvd. go left (south). It's a couple of blocks south of Central
Avenue on Gulf Blvd. at 104th Ave. (You have to look for it because it comes up quick.)
It's a public beach parking lot on beach side across from Treasure Island Fun Center.
It is crammed right in between two big hotels. You park in the city lot, and walk about 50
yards out to the beach. It a bit of a hike with a conga drum. You can hear them playing
when you park, so just follow the rhythm. Parking is free in the city lot after 6PM.
If you are coming from the northern part of the county, like Clearwater, you go south on
Missouri Ave. which turns into Seminole Blvd. Continue south past Ulmerton to Park Blvd.
Watch for the Beaches exit, and Go west, (right) towards the beach to Gulf Blvd.
Then south (left) to the public parking lot at 104th. It's a couple of miles.
If it happens to rain, sometimes the drum circle moves to the pavillion at the park
on 104th Avenue. It's across from The Fun Center.
